Global Design Ecosystem

Design Systems, Brand Architecture & Cross-Platform Production: Unifying templates, styleguides, playbooks, SOPs, video, eLearning and brand identity into one advertiser experience across every TikTok touchpoint

Introduction & Goal

Advertiser education at TikTok didn’t live in one place. It lived in the TikTok Business Help Center, TikTok Ads Manager, TikTok Academy, the Micro-Learning Center, email campaigns, and a growing list of sub-brands like Partner Development Specialists the Policy & Risk Bootcamp, and MI’s Global Onboarding experience. Each one built at a different time, by different teams, with no shared visual or instructional logic holding them together. Advertisers moving between those surfaces were relearning the interface every time. The brief wasn’t to redesign one product, it was to architect the ecosystem underneath all of them: the governance, the templates, the brand assets and the production systems that let every surface feel like one TikTok, not five disconnected tools. The challenge I set out to solve was consistency at scale, across formats (video, eLearning, web, print, swag), across teams, and across every future product that would get added to the roster. The expectation when I started was a cohesive advertiser experience that could absorb new initiatives without each one reinventing its own look, tone and production pipeline.

Process & Procedure

I started by mapping the terrain before designing anything: I identified and documented the full advertiser ecosystem governance, TikTok Ads Manager, the Business Help Center, TikTok Academy, and email, so every stakeholder could see, for the first time, how these surfaces actually connected from the advertiser’s point of view. From there, I built the production backbone that would let a consistent visual language travel across all of it: scalable content templates in Canva, Articulate Rise, Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint and Google Sites, each one engineered so a designer anywhere in the org could produce on-brand work without starting from zero. I ran TT4B and Keystone design system analysis and integration across every surface, opened the conversation with the Keystone team on system usage, and prescribed asset repository alternatives like the TikTok brand spot to drive adoption further.

What made this approach the right one was refusing to treat any single deliverable as the unit of work. A logo, a video template, an SOP, a one-pager, none of them existed in isolation, they were all instances of the same underlying system, so I built style guides and playbooks (the Ad Policy TikToks playbook, the TikTok Academy standardization playbook, the Infograph Design Process SOP, the Animation/GIF Process SOP) that let other designers and instructional designers extend the ecosystem correctly without me in the room. I wrote the NPS/CSAT questionnaire once and deployed it identically across every education initiative, so leadership could compare apples to apples instead of five different measurement standards. The surprising insight: the hardest part of ecosystem-level design wasn’t the visual system, it was governance, getting Product, Policy, Legal, Localization, Keystone and outsourced design agencies to build inside the same guardrails required design briefs as rigorous as the templates themselves, so I authored those briefs and ran composite design review sessions with the Advertiser Pod specifically to hold outsourced agencies to the standard.

Outcome

This became the invisible infrastructure behind nearly every advertiser-facing product TikTok shipped in Monetization Integrity, as well as Business Integrity and I’m genuinely proud that it held up as the ecosystem grew rather than cracking under its own scale.

Cohesive advertiser experience shipped across:

  • Make Good Action Micro-Learning (eLearning, one-pagers, quizzes)
  • TikTok Policy Videos (motion graphics, kinetic typography)
  • TikTok Academy (eLearning catalog, Rise templates)
  • Partner Development Specialists (brand, toolkit, microsite)
  • AdEx Policy Query Process (form, campaign assets, ILT/webinar deck)
  • SMB Growth email campaigns (multi-layout templates)
  • SMB integrity education infographics
  • Policy & Risk Bootcamp (branding, infographics, hero images, webinar assets, swag)
  • The Design Template Suite itself (infographs, ILTs, video, animation, banners)

Business Impact & Metrics

  • Ad Policy TikToks, built on the shared video system, drove an average 40% increase in Business Help Center CSAT scores 30 days after publication
  • Templates across the ecosystem cut development time by 20% to 50% depending on format, freeing instructional designers and content developers from rebuilding the wheel on every project
  • The visual and instructional consistency across Make Good Action, Policy Videos, Academy, PDS and email meant advertisers encountered one coherent brand voice regardless of which surface brought them in
  • The governance map and design system work became the reference other regional teams (NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC) pointed to when launching their own localized versions of these programs

This wasn’t a single hero project with a single hero number, it was proof that one designer’s systems thinking can hold an entire product ecosystem together at global scale, across video, eLearning, web, print and brand identity simultaneously.

Role

Learning Experience and Branding Designer, owning the cross-platform design system, brand governance, and production template architecture for TikTok’s full advertiser education ecosystem, from TikTok Ads Manager through the Business Help Center, TikTok Academy, email, and every sub-brand built on top of them.

Project Overview

TikTok’s advertiser education ecosystem spans multiple platforms, formats, audiences, and regions. As the number of advertisers and sales partners continued to grow, integrity education needed to scale without sacrificing clarity, consistency, or brand recognition.

I created a cross-platform design system that unified advertiser-facing education across TikTok Ads Manager, the Business Help Center, TikTok Academy, microlearning experiences, email communications, webinars, and regional support sites.

The system included reusable templates and standards for interactive infographics, eLearning, instructor-led training, videos, iconography, illustrations, banners, playbooks, standard operating procedures, communication campaigns, and tutorials.

Regions: APAC, EMEA, LATAM and North America
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Figma, Articulate Rise & Storyline, Camtasia, Canva, PowerPoint and Google Sites

The Goal

Implement a consistent visual language across advertiser integrity education while supporting the entire learning journey, from initial awareness and policy discovery to training, implementation, troubleshooting and continued support.

The experience needed to:

  • Extend TikTok’s established brand and product design systems
  • Make complex advertising policies easier to understand
  • Create consistency across platforms, regions and content formats
  • Support uniform guidance in multiple regional languages
  • Reduce production time through reusable templates and assets
  • Increase engagement, satisfaction and policy comprehension
  • Scale education without requiring every learner to attend live training

The Challenge

TikTok’s sales and advertiser education audiences were rapidly growing and becoming more diverse. However, training experiences were often created independently for different platforms, teams and regions.

Instructor-led sessions frequently relied on specialists presenting information from static slides. These sessions could last an hour or longer, required entire teams to step away from their responsibilities and offered limited opportunities for meaningful interaction.

A single session attended by 30 employees represented at least 30 combined working hours. The same content then had to be adapted manually for additional audiences, regions and delivery formats.

The challenge was not simply to redesign individual assets. It was to create a connected system that could deliver consistent policy education at scale.

Design Principle

I treated the advertiser experience as one continuous learning journey, not as a collection of isolated courses, articles, videos and communications.

The design system needed to feel unmistakably TikTok while remaining flexible enough to work across different educational formats and publishing environments. It had to preserve consistency without making every experience feel identical.

This meant translating TikTok’s broader brand language into a practical system for integrity education: reusable layouts, modular content structures, recognizable interaction patterns, standardized calls to action and clear connections between platforms.

Process

Mapping the Advertiser Ecosystem

I began by mapping existing and proposed advertiser education initiatives, including their audiences, platforms, owners and areas of overlap.

The ecosystem included:

  • TikTok Ads Manager
  • Business Help Center
  • TikTok Academy
  • Micro-Learning Center
  • Email communications
  • Webinars and instructor-led training
  • Regional support sites
  • Partner Development Specialist resources

This analysis revealed gaps in the learning journey, duplicated content and opportunities to extend existing educational materials into additional touchpoints such as MI On-Call, the Sales IPP and the Account Health page.

The ecosystem map was also used to communicate the strategy to leadership, support capacity planning and establish a roadmap for future advertiser education.

Aligning with TikTok’s Brand Systems

I analyzed the TikTok for Business and Keystone design systems to determine which components, interaction patterns and visual standards could be adopted across advertiser-facing education.

I collaborated with design-system partners and recommended accessible asset repositories—including TikTok Brand Spot—to encourage adoption across teams and products.

The resulting system extended TikTok’s established visual identity while accounting for the specific needs of policy education, instructional content and regional localization.

Designing a Modular Content System

I developed a reusable content architecture that allowed a single policy topic to be adapted into multiple formats.

A core policy concept could become:

  • A Business Help Center article
  • A TikTok Academy lesson
  • A short-form policy video
  • An interactive infographic
  • A microlearning experience
  • A webinar or instructor-led presentation
  • An email campaign
  • A downloadable playbook
  • A regional support resource

This modular strategy reduced duplicated effort, improved consistency and made content easier to update when policies changed.

Creating Templates and Production Standards

I designed scalable templates for Canva, Articulate Rise & Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint and Google Sites.

The system covered:

  • Interactive infographics
  • eLearning courses
  • Instructor-led and virtual instructor-led training
  • Short-form educational videos
  • Animations and GIFs
  • Webinar presentations
  • Communication banners
  • Hero images
  • Email campaign assets
  • Playbooks and procedures
  • Iconography and illustrations
  • Microsites and support portals
  • NPS and CSAT surveys

I also produced visual style guides for graphic assets and instructor-led training, documented an animation-to-GIF workflow and hosted a graphic design bootcamp to share tools, production techniques and best practices.

Building Governance into the System

A design system succeeds only when other teams can apply it consistently.

I facilitated collaborative design and development sessions with the Advertiser Pod and provided structured creative briefs to help external agencies meet established requirements.

I also created a centralized graphic asset repository inside MI Training’s Canva workspace. Designers could access approved icons, illustrations, photography, stickers and GIFs without repeatedly searching, downloading, formatting and uploading assets.

This repository saved teams up to four hours per infographic, while standardized templates reduced average infographic and visual-asset production time by approximately four to six hours.

Improving Quality, Capacity and Operational Efficiency

The design system was not limited to advertiser-facing experiences. I also created the processes, standards and enablement resources required for internal teams to apply it consistently across regions.

This work supported MI Training’s quality and capacity goals by reducing production friction, accelerating onboarding and making design knowledge accessible to team members with different levels of visual-design experience.

Global Standards, Process, Style Guides & Playbooks

I developed a library of standard operating procedures, style guides and implementation resources covering the complete content-production lifecycle:

  • Created a comprehensive Animation and GIF Process and Implementation SOP, reaching 93 views across APAC, EMEA, LATAM and North America.
  • Designed an instructor-led training style guide with standards and best practices, reaching 53 views across EMEA, LATAM and North America.
  • Created visual standards and best practices for Global Instructional Designer navigation assets.
  • Partnered with the North America Instructional Design team to develop an onboarding plan that helped new team members become productive faster. The resource reached 265 views across all four regions.
  • Developed an Infographic Design Process SOP covering workflow, visual standards and best practices.
  • Created structured Camtasia templates for advertiser-policy TikToks.
  • Contributed to the Advertiser TikTok SOP, which reached 106 views.
  • Contributed templates and reusable assets to the Training Menu, which reached 104 views.
  • Developed the MI Services All Hands Content Playbook with video-production standards and best practices.
  • Supported the “If it’s not in the PCC, it doesn’t exist” initiative by integrating infographic training content into the Policy Content Center.

Collectively, the process and standards documentation generated more than 465 views across APAC, EMEA, LATAM and North America, demonstrating adoption beyond the teams for which the original resources were created.E

Testing the System in Real Production Environments

The templates were tested through active regional initiatives rather than evaluated only as design concepts.

Content Excellence Pod

A rapid-production video template was used to develop the Policy Content Center’s New Policy Details Page eLearning module. I supported the team with production guidance, revisions, final updates and exporting.

The published course generated:

  • More than 620 completions
  • 494 learner responses
  • A 4.72-out-of-5 average rating for confidence in applying the learning on the job

This implementation demonstrated that an accessible template could support efficient production while still delivering a strong learner experience.

AI-Assisted Content Operations

I evaluated internal AI tools to determine how they could improve content-development speed, quality and accuracy while remaining aligned with organizational and compliance requirements.

My work included:

  • Testing AI tools for workflow effectiveness
  • Identifying opportunities to automate repetitive production tasks
  • Developing playbooks and usage best practices
  • Facilitating hands-on working sessions with cross-functional teams
  • Integrating approved AI tools into the MIBT toolkit
  • Collecting stakeholder feedback to improve implementation
  • Prompt-engineering and establishing governance for the ChatGPT TT4B Writing Bot

The TT4B Writing Bot was designed to accelerate content creation while maintaining established writing, brand and compliance standards. Supporting documentation helped teams understand where AI could add value and how to use it responsibly.

Upskilling MI Teams

A scalable system depends on people having the skills and confidence to use it. I paired the templates and documentation with live enablement opportunities.

I organized and facilitated regional Canva workshops for Training Experts, focusing on faster production and stronger visual quality for sales and advertiser education.

I also:

  • Hosted a Graphic Design Bootcamp covering design fundamentals, tools and production best practices
  • Contributed the Visual Design Basics section to the Certified Auxiliary Trainer program
  • Curated accessible visual-asset resources for trainers and content developers
  • Conducted individual working sessions tailored to specific stakeholder needs
  • Helped teams troubleshoot active design and production challenges
  • Facilitated cross-functional working sessions to strengthen collaboration and alignment

These initiatives expanded design capability beyond a central creative function. Teams could produce higher-quality materials independently while continuing to work within a shared system.

Connecting the Learning Journey

Every component was designed to guide advertisers toward the next useful action.

For example, Business Help Center infographic templates included a standardized call to action linking users to related TikTok Academy courses. This connected quick-reference policy guidance with deeper eLearning and helped bridge previously separate learning environments.

A unified NPS and CSAT questionnaire was also introduced across integrity education experiences, creating a more consistent framework for evaluating engagement, satisfaction and effectiveness.

Key Applications

The system was implemented across a broad collection of advertiser integrity initiatives:

  • Make Good Action microlearning
  • TikTok advertising policy videos

Outcome

The project transformed a collection of disconnected advertiser education initiatives into a cohesive, scalable global ecosystem. Advertisers could move more naturally between policy discovery, short-form education, formal training and ongoing support while encountering a consistent visual language across every touchpoint.

By combining brand-system thinking, learning experience design and modular content strategy, I created a framework that helped TikTok deliver clearer and more consistent policy education to advertisers globally.

The system improved learner satisfaction and comprehension while giving internal teams the templates, standards and reusable assets needed to produce high-quality education more efficiently.

The system delivered measurable improvements for both advertisers and internal production teams:

  • Advertising-policy videos embedded in Business Help Center articles contributed to an average 40% increase in positive CSAT scores within 30 days.
  • Interactive animations and infographics improved global policy comprehension and increased moderator accuracy by up to 16%.
  • Standardized templates, video frameworks and asset repositories reduced content-development time by approximately 40–50%.

  • Approximately 15 hours saved during one regional bootcamp implementation
  • More than 465 views of global process and standards documentation
  • Adoption across APAC, EMEA, LATAM and North America

Beyond the individual metrics, the most meaningful outcome was establishing a system that could continue to scale. Teams gained a shared visual language, reusable production tools and a modular content strategy that made it easier to deliver clear and consistent policy education across platforms, formats, languages and regions.

I am particularly proud that the work improved two sides of the experience at once. Advertisers received clearer, more engaging and more connected educational journeys, while internal teams gained a faster and more reliable way to produce high-quality content. What began as a design-standardization initiative became a practical framework for improving comprehension, operational efficiency and trust across TikTok’s global advertiser ecosystem.

I am especially proud that the project improved both the customer experience and the organization’s ability to deliver it. It did not produce only a library of polished assets. It created a sustainable operating model that connected design quality, learning effectiveness, production efficiency and global scalability.

What began as a visual-consistency initiative evolved into a framework for how TikTok could create, govern, measure and scale advertiser integrity education globally.
